Happy Mother's Day -- Lifestyle CEO Style!
My mother, who will turn 79 in July, is simply the most amazing
person I have ever known. Her generosity knows no end, and her capacity to
empathize with the weaknesses of others is truly inspiring. My mother is a
loyal help mate for my father, and today also serves as his primary
caregiver as he endures his second decade of thrice weekly dialysis
treatments and maneuvers through life without the benefit of his legs, which
have been amputated.
I was adopted by my parents from the St.
Ann's Infant & Maternity Home when I was 2 years old. I know that
someone else birthed me and I am thankful to her for whatever sacrifice that
may have meant in her life. She could have terminated me and my heart knows
that very well. But it is Bettie Coles, the native North Carolinian and
granddaughter of proud people who were called slaves, who is my mother. She
says that from the moment she picked me up to have a closer look and I
wrapped my tiny arms around her, she wanted desperately to take me home. I'm
not terribly smart, but even as a 2-year old, I knew how to pick 'em! And
I'm still doing it today, hand picking some of the most inspirational
women in the world to share their knowledge and insights with you. As you
celebrate motherhood of all kinds this month, check out Charlon Bobo's unique
take on how giving a child a good start is much like giving "roots
and wings" to your own business. Then get some encouragement from Terri
Bynoe to take a Girls' Trip Out so you can refuel
and recharge your batteries, and while there, enter for a chance to win a treatment at a
spa in your area! And when you come back from your vacation, you'll be ready
to beautify your home with some natural Antibacterial
Bathroom Cleaner, which probably won't be used much while you are
gone! Enjoy Chef Susan's tips on how to make meal planning fun and
memorable with a recipe for Cajun Grits and Turkey
Sausage. Once done there, you'll want to head over to Carrie Myers
Smith's and Marcia Davis Taylor's articles on being healthy
role models and making positive lifestyle choices
before the younger women in your life. I hope you enjoy my article
on how much fun it is to share a family business venture with the next
generation of entrepreneurs. And don't forget to meet this month's Lifestyle
CEO To Know, a farm girl from Louisiana who is cooking up a whole lot more than
gumbo! This issue is of course rounded out with my
best wishes for a Happy Mother's Day, and suggestions for how you can take Just
A Moment to honor the mothers in your life this month. And
finally, we want to hear back from you! We know how busy you are, and we are
so grateful to you for taking time from your schedules to meet with us each
month. How are we doing? Do you like what we have to say, or should we go
back to our day jobs? What are your questions and concerns, and how can we
address them with you? We want to hear from you, so please email
me your feedback and comments!
Don't forget to join me every Monday at 1:00pm EST on GlobalTalkRadio.com
