Comfrey Comfort Oil
by dM
Whether you are an expecting mom, already have a bundle of joy or two or
are just a gal looking for some smoothing oil to help whip that dry
skin into shape for the spring, Comfrey Comfort Oil is
perfectly formulated to help you. It can be used as a soothing diaper
balm or an all over moisturizing skin oil. It's easy to make and the yield
is about 4 ounces.
Ingredients
4 ounces sweet almond oil
1 handful fresh comfrey leaves (optional)
lavender essential oil
Blending Procedure
1. Gather fresh comfrey leaves if using. If not, just use straight almond
oil and skip to step 3. Wash the comfrey and allow them to wilt overnight.
Gently tear the herb leaves into large pieces and use a paper towel to make
sure that all moisture is removed from them. Place the herbs in a heat proof
pan large enough to hold them plus 4 ounces of oil. Cover the herb with
sweet almond oil and place the pan in a warm oven on the lowest setting.
Leave the oven door open to make sure the herbs don't burn in the oil.
2. Allow the herbs to infuse in the oil for at least 4 hours. Remove and
strain, discarding the herbs. You'll have a wonderful green infusion of
comfrey herb in the almond oil. You may want to strain the oil a few times
to make sure all of the herb pieces are removed.
3. Pour the oil into a 4-ounce plastic bottle with a flip top lid. Add 1 drop of lavender essential oil to the straight sweet almond oil
or herbal oil you made. If this will not be used on babies and small
children, you can use as many as 20 drops of essential oil to suit your
taste. Add 3 or 4 drops at a time and shake and smell after each addition
until you like the blend.
4. Use this oil as a soothing balm after diaper a change and to prevent
chafing. It's also a really nice all over moisturizing skin oil.
