Helping Women
dM is deeply committed to empowering women from around the world. She is
also keenly aware that not everyone who would like to is in a position to
attend a conference or start a business. Sometimes, the curve balls of life
come straight at us and it's suddenly nearly impossible to get out of bed in
the morning, much less read an online magazine or buy a book. Some of dM's
own life experiences might have completely defeated her were it not for
other women who came alongside and picked her up. Once when dM was
overwhelmed as a result of a series of great tragedies in her life, an angel
named Mary Yerrick came along and offered to help. Mary did not charge for
her services. She provided dM with much needed encouragement and referred
her to other women who could help. When dM told Mary that she could not pay
her, Mary simply said, "I don't want money. My pay is your promise that
when you are in a position to help other women, you will do so." Mary
then referred dM to Paige McMahon, the woman who introduced her to the art of
developing and maintaining positive relationships with the media. Paige, who
passed away in early 2006, referred dM to Katherine
Hutt, who is now a dear friend, colleague and mentor. It
is partly in recognition of Mary's, Paige's and Katherine's generosity and the wonderful things that
continue to flow from it that dM is committed to
supporting organizations that provide various forms of encouragement and
life training to women who find themselves in difficult circumstances. dM
has selected The Enterprising Kitchen
(TEK) of Chicago, Illinois as Lifestyle CEO's first formal alliance to help
uplift women and encourage them to re-discover their talents, gifts and
unique abilities to improve their lives and the lives of their
families. 5% of the purchase price of each Lifestyle CEO book sold through this website during 2006 will be donated to
TEK to help them accomplish their mission.
TEK, a member of the Handmade
Beauty Network, employs women who have been in homeless, abusive and other unfortunate situations to produce handmade bath and body products such as soaps, candles, bath salts and shower gel. By working with
TEK, these women gain valuable life and professional skills and enjoy hands on experience running a business. Women are employed twenty-five hours per week in all aspects of the cosmetics business, including manufacturing, customer service, sales, inventory management, order fulfillment and shipping.
